Kindle app for Windows Phone updated with wide tile, fast app resume.

It was long since the Kindle app for Windows Phone was updated. The last one dates back to January 29 of the current year and was purely cosmetic. The update that was published today also contains some visual changes and new features. The most notable for me being the new wide tile that displays your book progress and fast app resume. 

Kindle for Windows Phone has been updated to version 2.0.0.5 with the following changes:

- Fast app resume
- Live tile with book progress
- New wide tile image
- Fixed: books loading blank pages
- Fixed: Kindle Store links

Community based mapping Waze for Windows Phone 8 released.

Waze is a community based mapping, traffic & navigation app boasting 60 million users. The app was recently acquired by Google, after the developers announced they were working on an app for Windows Phone raising concern among Windows Phone fans that Google would kill the project. 

With Waze open while you're driving, you will get real time info about traffic in your neighborhood from other Waze users. You can also contribute by reporting accidents, traffic jams etc. But be careful while driving though.

Facebook and it's recently acquired Instagram have finally released a beta version of the official Instagram app for Windows Phone 8 devices. Google updates Google Search app for Windows Phone (no joke).

You read the title well. Google has updated its Search app for Windows Phone 7.x and 8. And yes Google has at least one app in the store for Microsoft's mobile platform. Despite the ongoing bickering between the two giants, Google has updated it's search app which let users sign in to their Google account within the app. I'm not sure yet how useful is that. So if I'm not missing anything, maybe Google has something else up its sleeves. Of course I'm happy to see Google bring new features to its Windows Phone app. It's good for their image after all.

Besides the usual bug fixes, here's what is new in the update:

-Sign in to your Google account within the app.
-On Windows Phone 8, your voice commands are instantly displayed on the screen.
-Improved Google Image viewing.

SophieLens HD front-facing camera bug fixed.

SophieLens HD is a nice photography app that photo lovers should get in their collection. The free app gives users fast live filtered preview in sleek, user-friendly design. SophieLens HD got a major update last month and users were offered free filter packs for download for a limited time. This offer is available until November 22. 

SophieLens HD has been updated today with a fix for a front facing camera bug affecting the Nokia Lumia 820, 620 and 520. The update also contains some miscellaneous bug fixes. The change log also states that "more to come". Not sure what that means, but expect to see another update soon.

Whatsapp update fixes "no routes" error.

Whatsapp is a messaging app that lets you send text, picture and video messages. The app is free for the first year and costs $0.99 after that. I call it the app that wants to kill SMS. However, unlike SMS, Whatsapp requires a data connection.

A fix is available today in the store that fixes an error for some users who could not register and getting a "no routes" error. The update is available here.

Peluncuran Smartwatch GEM google berbarengan dengan Kitkat

Sudah kita semua ketahui,  tentang pemberitaan yang banyak beredar sebuah sistem operasi versi  terbaru Android Kitkat telah dirilis oleh Google di akhir bulan Oktober lalu dengan ciri adanya patung besar kitkat di kantor pusat google. Kabar lainnya Berbarengan dengan peluncuran android 4.4, smartphone dengan generasi terbaru merk Nexus 5 pun kabarnya diluncurkan dalam waktu yang bersamaan.

Bukan hanya itu saja, sebuah  informasi terbaru mengungkapkan bahwa bukan hanya kedua produk google tersebut saja yang  diluncurkan  akhir bulan oktober kemarin. Sebuah produk dengan kode nama 'Gem' yang diduga adalah sebuah jam tangan pintar diperkirakan juga akan dihadirkan oleh Google. Mungkin hal ini dilakukan untuk mengikuti tren jam tangan pintar yang sedang ngetrend saat ini.

Dikutip dari laman Android and Me, Minggu (6/10/2013), bahwasannya pada Nexus 5 Google  menggandeng perusahaan teknologi  yakni  LG, Nah untuk smartwatch Gem perusahaan yang berbasis di Mountain View, California itu disebutkan bermitra dengan salah satu anak perusahaan mereka,  yang kita kenal sebagai  Motorola.

Motorola sendiri beberapa waktu lalu sempat merilis sebuah produk jam tangan inovatif bernama Motorola Activ yang diperuntukkan bagi kegiatan olahraga dan mampu terintegrasi dengan perangkat mobile berbasis Android.

Selain itu, ketika merilis smartphone Moto X beberapa waktu lalu, disinyalir Motorola juga memiliki sebuah produk jam tangan pintar bernama xWatch. Namun sayang, produk tersebut tak sempat dirilis. Besar kemungkinan, 'Gem' adalah produk penyempurnaan dari xWatch milik Motorola.

Kitkat sebagai nama versi android 4.4 terbaru

Perusahaan internet terbesar di dunia yakni Google, sekarang telah membuat  sebuah kejutan untuk para pengguna smartphone dengan OS android, mereka dengan mengumumkan tentang nama baru OS Android berikutnya. Sebelum pengumuman ini dahulu pernah ada isu  bahwasannya nama versi terbaru nya adalah Key Lime Pie, dan ternyata KitKat  merupakan  nama dari versi Android 4.4.

Sudah pada tahu bukan apa itu kitkat? Ya, KitKat ini adalah  merk produk makanan cokelat  kepunyaan  Nestle. Ini memang pertama kalinya bagi Google memakai merk populer, biasanya mereka menggunakan nama  yang terdengar biasa tak sepopuler kitkat, seperti "Eclair" "ice cream sandwich" "jelly bean"  juga "Gingerbread". Kalaupun mengangkat sebuah nama produk terkenal,   Google  menyatakan sama sekali tidak ada pembayaran sejumlah uang ke pihak KitKat dan pemilihan nama ini murni keputusan internal mereka.

Resminya penggunaan nama ini ditandai dengan berdirinya patung Android berbentuk KitKat di markas utama Mountain View. Mereka kemudian merilis iklan perkenalan yang menyindir John Ive, desainer OS Apple. Goole juga mengungkap alasan tidak jadi menggunakan nama Key lime Pie.

"Kami menyadari hanya sedikit orang yang tahu rasa Key lime pie," ucap John Lagerling, petinggi Android. "Rasa KitKat jauh lebih familiar untuk progammer daripada Key lime pie yang hanya ada di Florida."

Untuk menandai kerjasama ini, Nestle dan Google akan menjual 50 juta edisi khusus Android KitKat di 19 negara. Nantinya konsumen bisa memenangkan undian berupa tablet Nexus 7 dan Google Play credit saat membelinya. Belum diketahui apakah Indonesia juga akan bisa menikmati KitKat edisi khusus ini.
