Microsoft has a slew of updates for its Facebook app for Windows Phone.

Facebook, the world's dominant social network, received a slew of updates on the Windows Phone 8, 8.1 and 10 platforms. The app is developed and maintained by Microsoft unlike other platforms where Facebook builds its own app. This update proves that Microsoft has been hard at work to bring some much needed features to the app and that will certainly please those who use Facebook exclusively on Windows Phone. Check out the full change log below and head over to the Windows Phone store to update Facebook.

Version Notes:

· Cover photo management
· Profile picture management
· Threaded comments

gPlus, an excellent Google+ client for Windows Phone receives minor update.

Google attempt at building its own social network to rival Facebook has so far not been met with success and that no matter what Google fanboys want you to believe. Facebook remains the undisputed leader in social networking. However, if like me, you still hang out on Google+ and would like to do so on a Windows Phone, there's the excellent gPlus app, a third party client that brings Google's network to your Windows Phone with a modern UI - it is not a web wrapper.

With gPlus, you will be able to create and edit your post and comments, upload your photos, join communities and circles. All that from your Windows Phone.

gPlus was updated today with some bug fixes and can be downloaded/puchased in the Windows Phone store at the price of $0.99.

Xim pictures directly from your Windows Phone camera.

Xim is a nice app for sharing photos with friends and families without giving them your phone. This is particularly useful when you're, say, attending a party and you do not want to see your phone moving around when all you want is your friends to see a picture that is either on your camera roll or your favorite cloud service and nothing else.

Sharing a photo with Xim is done either by email or a phone number and the Xim app is not required on the phone or desktop. So you may be sharing photos to 10 friends and you are the only one with Xim app installed. Your friends will receive a link by email or text and view the photo in their phone's browser. You, as the sharer, are in control since Xim lets you swipe, pan and zoom on the photo.

As stated above, Xim lets you pick the photos you want to share from your camera roll, OneDrive, Dropbox, Facebook and Instagram. In an update published today, Xim lets you use the phone's camera to take a picture and share it right away.

This update also includes the usual performance improvements and bug fixes.

Download Xim free in the Windows Phone store.

Facebook Beta for Windows Phone updated with improved Most Recent page and more.

Facebook remains by far the world's largest social network despite attempts by Google with its Google+ which never managed to even make a dent into Facebook's popularity. IMO, Google+ only managed to become the largest gathering spot for the fan boys of the ad company.

Meanwhile, on the Windows Phone platform, the beta version of Facebook has been updated with a few improvements and fixes. If you're not aware, Facebook beta is an app Microsoft uses to test new features before they make their way to the official app. Both apps are available in the Windows Phone store. Use the links at the end of this article to download.

What's new:

  • Improvements to the Most recent page.
  • Improvements to News Feed story templates.
  • Fixes related to People Hub content.
  • Fixes to address issues with sharing partners.
Download Facebook Beta in the Windows Phone store.

Facebook Messenger lets you send messages to people you don't know and vice versa.

Chances are you are among the 500 million souls on this planet using Facebook Messenger on their Windows Phones. Today, Facebook Messenger received a pretty big update in that you will be able to send messages to anyone using the Zuckerberg social network.  By anyone, I mean even people you don't know and it works both ways. So you may start receiving messages from strangers, like it or not. This feature has been available on other platforms for some time and I have not heard horror stories, yet.

Here's what's new in this update that brings Facebook Messenger to version 9.0:
  • Improvements to make the app faster
  • Now you can message people even if you're not Facebook friends
  • Tap People to sync your phone contacts
  • Enter anyone's phone number to start texting them from the app
  • Add colorful drawings and text to photos from your cameral roll before you send them

Get notified when files/folders are updated in your cloud with CloudMesh.

We all own at least one cloud account and for those who own more, it can be tedious to manage them all on our Windows Phone. Thanks to apps like CloudMesh, keeping track of our data in the cloud is made simple, well less tedious. CloudMesh is one of these apps that brings all your accounts in one place and it's not just that. You can also easily copy data between each accounts like you do between traditional folders on your computer.

This is what CloudMesh do with popular cloud services like OneDrive, Google Drive, Facebook, Mega, Box, Dropbox etc. And the app keeps improving. Today's update, for example, brings some new features, improvements and bug fixes listed below:
  1. File and folder tracking - Receive notification when someone updates a file or folder.
  2. 4Shared and 4Sync support.
  3. Catalan, Czech and Persian language support.
  4. Minor UI bugs fixed.
  5. Symbol languages issue while downloading/uploading fixed.
  6. Bunch of crash bugs.
  7. Performance improvements on some clouds.
CloudMesh is available both free and paid in the Windows Phone store.

CloudMesh updated with new sync feature and support for more languages.

Think of CloudMesh as your favorite newsreader. It brings all the popular cloud storage services in one app thus negating the need of downloading and using separate apps on your Windows Phone. CloudMesh does that very well with the ability to sign in to OneDrive, Google Drive, Box, Mega Dropbox, Facebook and MeoCloud.

It is not only your one stop shop for your cloud storage needs, CloudMesh also includes a sync feature that lets users sync/copy files between the cloud services. A very neat feature that gets even better with today's update as synchronizing files from the phone to the cloud and vice-versa now happens in the background.

The update adds support for more languages: Swedish, Russian, and Dutch. Besides the usual performance enhancements, the developer added support for offline folders and UI and UX improvements.

CloudMesh is available in the Windows Phone store in both a free and paid version.

Facebook Messenger app for Windows Phone gets video sharing.

Facebook Messenger today received another update. Up until now, it was only possible to take and share photos within the app. This changes now with the added support of in-app video sharing. After installing the update, simply tap the camera icon, then hold to start recording a video. A tap will take a picture. And there's more as received videos are now playable within Facebook Messenger.

The update also contains a feature that lets users find stickers easily with recent stickers and finally, the usual improvements to make the app faster and more reliable.

Facebook Messenger is a free app in the Windows Phone Store.

Official Twitter app for Windows Phone gets big update.

The Official Twitter app for Windows Phone has been quite silent for some time. So it's with great pleasure that I acknowledge receipt of this big update from the popular micro-blogging platform. Those new features seems to bring the Windows Phone version on par with competing platforms and should silence those vociferous critic that Windows Phone is a platform that no developers care about as both Twitter and Facebook have beta version of their apps that are continuously getting new features before being ported to the official app. And numerous of these features are results of beta testers feedbacks. The "What's new" in this update is quite self explanatory, so I'll just publish the change log as is:
  • Tag your friends in a photo to start a conversation.
  • Capture the moment by uploading multiple photos to a single tweet.
  • Tweets with Twitter photos, Vine videos and other select content now show a preview in your home timeline.
  • You can reply, retweet, favorite or follow someone straight from a Tweet in your home timeline.
  • Share photos through Direct Messages.
Happy download and enjoy this new version of Twitter for Windows Phone.

"My Social Share Target" brings sharing to multiple social networks back to Windows Phone 8.1 preview.

No doubt Windows Phone 8.1 Preview has got the attention of many. Two weeks since its release, the preview has more than a million download and has garnered a lot of positive reviews. No need to say Windows Phone fan boys and fan girls are happy and excited about the preview. However, there are a few things that Microsoft chose to remove in Windows Phone 8.1 Preview. One among them is the ability to share to multiple social networks with just one tap. A feature unique to Windows Phone until the release of the preview. By removing this feature , some are claiming that Windows Phone 8.1 Preview sharing feature looks a lot like...Android. And it does. But the comparison stops there.

Enter MSiccDev.

Since last week, an app has been published to the Windows Phone Store by MSiccDev to fill in for the multiple sharing feature removed by Microsoft. The app is called "My Social Share Target SL" and is a test version everyone can download and submit feedback. My only issue with it is its name which I hope will change on final release.

My Social Share Target adds the multiple sharing feature back to Windows Phone, accessible either via the app list, a pinned tile and, better yet, via the Me tile. The latter feature will let you post a status update to multiple social networks again. Currently, Facebook and Twitter are supported with more to come.

My Social Share Target is a free download in the Windows Phone Store.

6tag update: Save Instagram videos to your SkyDrive.

Some developers rest on their laurels, others don't. Rudy Huyn is one of those developers who almost relentless work on improving their apps. Before Facebook and Instagram made up their mind to provide a beta app for Windows Phone, Rudy Huyn had 6tag, an excellent Instagram client. The app is still my favorite Instagram client app on my Windows Phone.

6tag was updated yesterday that lets users save Instagram videos to their SkyDrive. I have never used the video feature of Instagram, just like I'm not a fan of Vine, but I'm pretty sure this added feature will be welcomed by the fans. The update also includes the usual bug fixes.

The update is available free for download in the Windows Phone Store.
